About me

Image description

As of 2017, I am a literary agent with The North Literary Agency. Please see the home page for details of how to submit.

I have been working as an editor since April 2013 for both publishers and authors. As a keen reader of fiction, YA fiction and non-fiction, I am comfortable working in all of these genres. I enjoy working with authors to bring out the best in their work and to find solutions that both they and their publisher are satisfied with.

I am originally from Blairlogie, near Stirling, but I moved to Edinburgh in 2007 and have lived here ever since. I studied mathematics at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in 2011 with a 2:1 degree after completing a first-class dissertation on codes and cryptography.

In 2011/12, I studied for my master's degree in creative writing, also at the University of Edinburgh. My tutors included Alan Warner, Allyson Stack, Robert Alan Jamieson and Alice Thompson. My dissertation project – a 30,000-word novella – received a distinction.

After graduating, I began internships with Birlinn Ltd, Freight Books and Linen Press. At the end of my internship at Birlinn, I was offered the position of part-time digital assistant, working on eBooks and the Birlinn website. A few months later I was promoted to sales, publicity and events assistant, a role in which I remained for almost two years.

Throughout this time I was doing freelance editorial work for publishers and authors. In the summer of 2015 I made the difficult decision to leave Birlinn in order to pursue a more focused editorial career. Since then I have greatly expanded my list of publisher clients and have worked with a selection of fantastic authors across a variety of genres.
